Sherry G. (Akers) Doan

Sherry Gay Akers Hight Doan, 82, of Montezuma passed on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at Clinton Gardens.

She was born on November 16, 1943, to Jesse and Viola Akers.

Sherry graduated from Mecca High School in 1961. Sherry sang gospel music. She sang with her sister-in-law and nieces and brother-in-law. They were known as the Gospel Echos. Then Sherry sang on her own for many years. Sherry attended Montezuma and Mecca Christian Churches. She devoted her life to serving the Lord. She loved her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Viola (Haughee) Akers; 4 sisters, Pat, Beverly, Winona and Betty; her first husband Harold Hight, and her grandson Frankie Wallace.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years Buck Doan; children, Lisa (Jon) Effner, Danny Hight, Debbie Johnson, and Dennis (Julie) Hight; 9 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Clinton Gardens for all they have done in the last 6 years taking care of Sherry.

Visitation will be at Montezuma Christian Church on Tuesday December 30, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. with Dean Hutson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Montezuma Christian Church, Mecca Christian Church or Alzheimer’s Association in memory or Sherry.
